Pupils learn that there is not only one accent in English. They learn the differences between the British and American pronunciation. They learn the differences between American and British culture.
Aktivity:
Teaching
First off I would play the British National Anthem with lyrics. Then I would tell some basic facts.
4 minutes.
I would show a map of the United Kingdom. Pupils would see all the dialects there are and also the areas. I would play a video that would demonstrate all the dialects.
7 minutes
After that I would talk about the most important dialects. With each dialect I would play a video as an example.
5 minutes.
I have prepared 3 exercises and a quiz. In the first exercise pupils should fill in the missing words in sentences. Each sentence is spoken by a speaker with different accent. The second exercise deals with the differences between American and British pronunciation. Each pupil gets a paper with two columns. Each column contains the same words. They have to decide how to pronounce each word with American and British accent. The last exercise deals with five different speakers. Each speaker says a sentence and pupils have to show in the map where the speaker comes from. I shall end the lesson with a quiz.
