The aim of the class: To master the future tense with “will” – to understand it and to know how to use it, to get acquainted with some European countries and their cultural features such as cuisine, typical names, capitals, historical monuments, currencies

    Popis přípravy:

    1)    Warm welcome

    -       To greet the students and welcome them in today´s class

    2)    Guessing the topic of the class – pre-activity for the whole class (5 minutes)

    -       The students will not be told the topic of the class, they will be supposed to guess it which might possibly motivate them to work

    -       The guessing will be made via the game “hangman” (http://hangman.no/, use password:hvjgddfvfmca) which will be projected on the smartboard

    -       “The instructions: You will try to guess the topic of today´s class. You will guess every single letter of it. Attention – there is one restriction. Every time, your letter should represent any town, city or country you know. For example – A for Abu Dabhí.

    -       The students will be progressively asked to come to the smartboard and to insert any letter they want. Each time, the student will use a town or a city or a state to guess the letter of our word – topic of the class, which is “future”.

    3)    Explaining the grammar – future tense with WILL – isolation of a grammar structure via inductive approach (5 minutes)

    -       For this activity, the power point presentation projected on the smartboard will be used

    -       On the smartboard, there will be a short conversation between James and Petr:

“James: Do you live in České Budějovice?

Petr: Yes, I live in České budějovice now, but I will live in London next year.

James: Great! Will you live there with your mother?

    Petr: No, I won´t (= will not).”

    -       The form of the future tense is in bold in order to highlight only the future form in the text for the students

    -       The students will be asked to read aloud the dialogue and then to translate it in Czech to make them perfectly understand.

    -       Then, the teacher will ask the questions:

What is the difference between “now” and “next year”? (present vs. future)

How is the future tense  formed? (by “will” with a verb)

How is the question in the future formed? (Reversed word order “will you…?”)

How is the negative formed? Two possibilities (“will not” or “won´t)

    -       This method is used to make the students understand the grammar on their own, to find the principles of the future tense on their own

    -       At the end of this activity, the teacher will ask whether all the students understood or not, in order to clarify possible difficulties

    4)    Practising the grammar – question and answers (5 – 10 minutes)
